"Marcos Marching North"; etching

As a writer, artist, and designer/builder I work with words, pictures and places. My art is informed by the landscape of my native Ecuador, by the expressionism of the body and cult of the city, and by the struggles of the communities caught between histories of oppression and hopes of liberation. My interests lie with the transformative potential of creative work: I believe art must engage our daily struggles and serve as a catalyst for collective reflection, dialogue and solidarity. I currently work at a Bay Area nonprofit, Urban Ecology, facilitating community-based design for organizations in low income neighborhoods.
